Educational estimate

Understand your electrical panel.

Answer a few questions about your home and we'll estimate what your panel can support — so you walk into the electrician conversation informed, with the right questions ready. Snap a photo of the breaker box too: it stays on this page for your records (the estimate comes from your answers, not the photo). Educational estimate, not an electrical assessment.

Your home

Electricians near you, right now

Pulled live from the open map around your set location. Get 2–3 quotes, ask for "a 240V EV charger circuit with a load calculation," and confirm the license number with your state board.

Finding electricians…

Want this done? Get matched with a licensed installer.

Leave your contact and we'll connect you with a licensed, insured electrician for a home charger quote — your panel numbers above come attached, so the quote is grounded in reality.

Honesty note: if we connect you with a partner installer, we may earn a referral fee from them — never from you, and it never changes the advice above. Prefer to go local on your own? Totally fine.

EV matcher · 6 questions

Which EV is actually right for you?

Six honest questions. No dealer kickbacks. We'll tell you what to buy — and if "wait 18 months" is the smarter answer, we'll say that too.

Buying used? Reality-check the battery in 30 seconds.

Ask the seller for two numbers off the dash — current battery % and the range it's showing. With the original EPA range, that's enough to estimate the battery's health before you drive an hour to see a lemon.

Dash estimates wobble with temperature and recent driving — treat this as a screen, not a verdict. Original EPA range: look up the exact year + trim on fueleconomy.gov.

Find every rebate.

Federal, state, and utility incentives layered together. Most calculators only show the federal $7,500. The real number is usually higher.

Live: current laws & incentives in your state

Pulled directly from the U.S. DOE's Alternative Fuels Data Center — the federal database of every EV law and incentive program.

Can I still claim the federal EV tax credit?

The §30D federal credit (up to $7,500 new EV / $4,000 used) ended for purchases after September 30, 2025. But a couple of paths are still alive. Walk through this to find out which apply to you.

This is general information, not tax advice. Credit rules, income caps, and eligible-vehicle lists change — confirm your situation with a tax professional and the official IRS guidance before filing.

What going electric saves, state by state.

Annual fuel savings for a typical 12,000-mile driver — each state's residential electricity rate against a 30-MPG gas car. Tap your state for the math. Overnight TOU rates usually beat these averages.

Time-of-use savings

When should you charge to save?

Most utilities charge 2–4× more for power during peak evening hours. Charging your EV in the right window can cut your fuel cost in half. Find your utility's cheapest hours — and what it's worth.

Don't see yours? Pick the closest, or use the national-average baseline at the bottom. We're adding more utilities continuously.

The three things that actually matter

1
Charge overnight, almost always. Nearly every utility's cheapest window is the middle of the night — typically midnight to 6am. A Level 2 charger adds ~25 mi/hr, so even a 6-hour window covers 150 miles. More than enough for daily driving.
2
Avoid the 4–9pm peak like the plague. This is when rates spike hardest — often 2–4× the overnight rate. Set your charger's schedule so it never runs in this window, even if you plug in at 6pm.
3
Ask your utility about an EV-specific plan. Many offer dedicated EV rate plans with ultra-low overnight prices (sometimes $0.05–0.12/kWh vs $0.30+ standard). Some even allow a second meter just for your charger. Worth a 10-minute phone call.

Rates and time windows are approximate, based on published 2026 utility schedules, and change frequently. Always confirm current rates and plan availability directly with your utility before switching plans. This is a planning estimate, not a rate quote.

The apartment EV toolkit.

One-third of EV owners rent. Eleven states have "right to charge" laws. Most landlords — and most renters — don't know they exist. Time to fix that.

Generate your landlord letter

A polished, legally-grounded request your landlord can't ignore. Cites your state's right-to-charge law if one exists.

Know your rights

Right-to-charge laws by state. If you live in one of these, your landlord can't unreasonably deny a charger install.

Can you live there with an EV? — address reality check

Considering an apartment (or any home) without your own charger? Paste the address and we check the public-charging reality around it — straight from the U.S. DOE federal station database, plus your state's right-to-charge law.

Build a tenant coalition

One renter asking for a charger is easy to ignore. Five is harder. Use this to gauge demand in your building before approaching management.

How we make money (and where we don't). When you book a certified home-charger installer or solar installer through us, we earn a referral fee from them, not from you — pricing is the same as going direct. Everything else here is free and unaffiliated: OEM roadside numbers, used-EV battery routing (Recurrent is independent), insurance shopping (just framework, no kickback), apartment letters, rebate research, the troubleshooter. We rank shops by certification + reviews, never by referral amount. If you'd rather skip our directories and go local, that's fine — we'll never email you about it.

Why this exists

Three things nobody else does.

01

No kickbacks. None.

Other EV sites get paid by dealers, charger networks, or whoever ranks first. We earn referral fees only from certified home-charger and solar installers — and only when you ask us to find one — at the same price you'd get going direct. Everything else is free and unaffiliated: OEM roadside, rebate research, the troubleshooter, battery health routing.

Try us: we recommend competitors when they're better.
02

Post-OBBBA truth.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act killed the federal §30D EV credit on September 30, 2025. Every other EV calculator on the internet is still showing "claim your $7,500" — months out of date. We track legislation week-by-week, surface the lease loophole that still works, and list every state program with current sunset dates.

Verified weekly. Cited. Dated. Honest.
03

Moments, not categories.

You don't wake up needing a "service category." You wake up stuck at a charger, or about to buy a used Bolt with a battery you can't see, or wondering if your apartment lease lets you install an L2. We organize the entire product around those moments — not around our own taxonomy. The Help tab speaks human, not enterprise.

16 moments and counting. Each routed to the right human.
One last thing. Every EV owner we keep happy is one more household that doesn't go back to gas the next time their lease ends. Every used EV we help someone buy with confidence is a vehicle that doesn't get parted out. Every renter we help install a charger is a person who can finally afford the transition. The tools are mundane. The impact is generational. That's why we built this.
